FCC 10 digit phone number system

The FCC (federal communication commission) passed a law, mandating all VRS companies to use a local 10 digit phone number system, beginning January 1, 2009.

Once the process is working properly, this is going to be a great thing. Up until today if a deaf person wanted to call another video phone from their current video phone, they needed an IP Address to call them. This was incredibly frustrating. And rarely worked. Your internet company has the ability to change your IP address anytime they want, unless you paid an extra fee to keep the same IP Address.

Also, if a deaf person had an emergency, they had no access to emergency 911 services. They would have to call on their video phone or tty, wait until the next relay operator is available and then hold while they were connected to E911, in the case of a true emergency it would take them a long time to get through, and relay their information and get emergency personnel to their home.

The FCC passed a law saying this was unacceptable. Thankfully.

In the meantime work is insanely busy.
