HSBC

I called my bank this morning about the Planet Fitness issue, and they will be refunding the money that Planet Fitness withdrew. :0) Horray!!! HSBC Makes me happy. They're wonderful to work with and speak with. I am so glad they're my bank. I'm sure other people have had issues with them, but for Jim and I, they've been wonderful.

Planet Fitness

I joined planet fitness in February to get into shape for our honeymoon. I knew going on a cruise was going to mean a lot of walking, and less than a month after the wedding we were planning to hike up a mountain, also requiring more physical strength than I had. For the first 3 months of my membership I went to the gym 2-3 times a week, and loved it. But the closer we got to the wedding and finals, the less time I had to devote to the gym.

Fast forward another two months, and we're now living on the other side of the city, and keeping busy enough with the house, that I don't need to go to the gym to get a work out. running up and down the stairs with a laundry basket and keeping the house clean is a workout enough for me! So I went into planet fitness and cancelled my membership last Thursday. I also let them know that the card they had on file was no longer valid, and was being closed, so if they charged that account for any fee's it would bounce. They took my new card information, and said it would be fine, and not to worry. I had right around $5 and some change in my account to cover a transaction I made at the post office, and I was waiting for that to clear before I could close my checking account. I checked my account Saturday, and there was a -$5 in there, I knew it was planet fitness and they had messed up, but I had to wait for it to clear before I could do anything. So, I checked it again this morning, and there is now a -$89 in that account, because it also bounced my $5 postal charge. So, I figured, well its planet fitness' mistake, so they'll fix it right?

wrong.

I called, and very calmly explained the situation to them, and told them that it was their mistake and they needed to fix it. Matt- the manager- told me he would look into it and see what he could do and call me back. About 20 min or so he called back and said there was nothing he can/would do. Any transactions made after the 10th of the month are deducted from the account on file, I told the manager that I think that his customer service representative should have told me that was the policy, and I could have ensured there was enough money in my account, he told me that he was sorry, but he wouldn't be able to do anything about it. I tried to explain to him that $35 is a lot of money to pay for the mistake of his employee and that I was fine paying the $10 transaction, but I was not ok with paying the $70 for bouncing my account twice.

At this point, I wasn't happy at all! They made the mistake, and it cost me $70, and now they aren't willing to fix their mistake. I told them that it wasn't the $10 fee I had a problem with, its the fact that their employee didn't notify me that it would come out of my old account, not the new one. He then started to tell me that his employee's were trained, and it was not their fault, its not their "job" to tell a customer that.

So, basically, they made a mistake, and they have been completely unwilling to fix their mistake.
